Hello Ed 401! For my Web 2.0 project, I chose to review classtools.net. The first thing I noticed about this website was that it was free! Secondly, you did not need to have a username or password to access the activities. Finally, it was extremely easy to post this on the blog. The website itself generally does not hold the activities that have been made. In order to access activities that you have made, you have to put them onto a blog or webpage of your own. This website has many different resources that a teacher is able to use in a Reading/Language Arts classroom. There are many different types of charts that you can use, such as a Venn Diagram, Jigsaw Diagram, Post-it tool, Priority Chart, and a Living Graph. There are also items such as the Random Name Generator, Countdown Timer, and Dustbin Game that a teacher could use to pick on students or keep time for a certain activity. The activity that I focused on was the Arcade Game Generator.
In order to use this activity, you:
1. Type in the name of your game/quiz/activity.
2. Insert your questions and answers into the box below.
3. Separate the questions from the answers with and asterisk: question*answer
4. Start each question on a fresh line.
5. Type in a password at the bottom so your students won't be able to edit the page or see the answers. (The password I used was concordia).
6. Choose which game the students will play first or leave it at the default so the students can pick for themselves.
7. Click on the button next to the floppy disk button (looks like a gear), in order to get the HTML to embed what you have created into your webpage.
If you click example at the top of the page, there will be ten random questions that are given to you with their answers. You can then click play to see how the games are played. Students can then go to your webpage, such as this wiki, and click on the picture to get to the games. I chose to create my games on modes of transportation so the students would be learning vocabulary. This is a great way for students to learn because they think they are playing a game, but they are actually learning at the same time. I recommend this website to teachers of all grades. I think there is something for every grade on this website that would be beneficial. I just did a small part of what was on the website, there was much more that could be done in the classroom.
